Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
Huge number of variables but where would we be?
He's only 31 still and in a goalscorers prime...

about 20m quid richer as he'd have been off to United or Arsenal before long, Webger and Ferguson were both fans

Same position but he'd be at man united

Dean Ashton would be Nr 9 at Man Utd.

We'd have a much healthier goal difference, or reaping the rewards of selling him for a fortune.

Top of the league.

5 titles and two Champions League trophies.

He'd have 100 caps and have scored 57 goals.

We'd still have Allardyce as a manager and he'd have got a Knighthood by now.

Re: Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
hasd he not got the original injury we may well have stayed out of relegation trouble the season after

So maybe not have had the Sheff United case and Pardew not got sacked

However unless he could also have magically stopped the Icelandic banking crisis I'm guessing we'd be in pretty much the same place we are now

Re: Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
I really liked Ashton, some lovely touches for a big man. Man City away especially.

However I didn't think he was THAT good, and I doubt he'd have ever played for Man Utd, let alone England regularly or Champions League football.

Seems a bit fantasy.

I do remember when he was booed for not jumping after the first injury he had at home to someone under Curbs though. And I remember Gradi saying he treated Ashton like a veteran and allowed him extra time off to recover because he had issues, especially on the hamstrings. He was a kid as well!

Re: Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
Remember beating Crewe3-1 away and coming away talking about him,as he was only a teenager but had looked absolute class.

If he'd stayed fit he would probably have only stayed with us for another season before being snapped up by a bigger club, but always a shame seeing careers cut short.

I reckon we'd have won the Cup Final had he been fully fit, absolutely dominated both Hyppia and Carragher till he had to go off

Re: Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
Reckon he could be very good on his day but one of those strikers that when he was shit was absolutely awful and looked fat.

Which isn't a bad thing for a footballer, it's actually quite funny.

Look at Andy Reid.

Fella has played pro footballer for years despite the fact he is clearly fucking overweight somehow!

He would've joined spurs and fired them to league and European cup glory, we would boo his every touch.

Glad he got injured when he did tbh.

Whoa!

Bit much that!

Poor fucker had his career smashed to bits quicker than Klash at an all-black house party!

Re: Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
Considering that he wasn't anywhere near as good as some on here believe I doubt that we would be anywhere to boast about.

Obviously why he got an England call up PD because he was shit!!

He was a smashing footballer, one of the most complete forwards around. It broke my heart that he had to retire.

PD in talking shit shock!

We'd be pretty much where we are now I reckon, as we'd have sold him ages ago and wasted the money

Re: Where would we be now if Dean Ashton didn't get injured?
Very good player, but I agree with those who say he wasn't as good as many go on. Was a bit lazy as well.

Certainly wouldn't have been at Man United or anyone like that.
